DKMS Robotics recently took the opportunity to visit MooVille, a fully robotic milking dairy farm, in Nashville, MI. Our team learned about the four working robots on the farm.
The first working robot we learned about is large red round robot that pushes the cow's feed up to them every three hours. This prevents the feed from getting out of reach of the cows as well as preventing the feed from piling up and fermenting.
The second robot we learned about is a wire driven "slip" that removes the cow's manure from the middle of their feeding gallery. This manure is collected and used to fertilize the farm's fields twice a year.
The third robot we learned about is an automatic back-scratchier. This robot looks like it belongs in a car wash, however, plays a very important role in the cow's well-being. The cows can brush up against the scratchier to get their sides and if they push the brush up to a certain angle, the brush will begin to rotate and clean the top of the cows. This keeps the cows free of debris in areas they cannot clean themselves.
The forth robot, and the main reason for the team's visit to MooVille, is their automatic milker. This robot allows the farm to milk their cows twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The benefits of the robotic milking system are:
Team C.A.T. made its second annual appearance in the Delton Kellogg Schools Homecoming Parade. Team members passed out candy (Nerds and Smarties of course!) to spectators as well as team information flyers to allow the community to learn more about the team.
This post is coming a little late, but DKMS Robotics had a very informative and successful time while in Grand Rapids attending the FIRST Season Kickoff at Grand Valley State University. The team was able to have a student or parent attend every breakout session offered during the kickoff. Team C.A.T also won a brand new light sensor that will be installed on this season's robot to allow it to orientate it within the playing field. Here's to a new season!

Today the DKMS Robotics Team (Team C.A.T.) had the opportunity to present to the local Rotary Club of Delton, Michigan. All students involved did exceptionally well and were able to show of their knowledge and talents in the realm of technology. Our robot, "Steve" even stood up to the task and preformed for the club. We hope to continue to share with the local community and surrounding area to pass on our knowledge and experiences as well as secure funding for the team.

I know that this is coming a while after the event, but better late than never. The single spring event that DKMS Robotics, Team C.A.T., took part of was the Cassopolis FTC May Day Scrimmage Event. During this even our team won their first team trophy for the design of their robot. Pictures and results below!
