The 2019-20 Season Kickoff located at Grand Valley State University went off without a hitch. Our team has grown since last year and we were able to get the rookie students into the FIRST culture. Our veterans also received time to complete the robot chassis and begun their new Java programming. Below are a few images from the day.
The first time in team history, we made it to a final round of a tournament! At Gull Lake's May-Day event last spring, Team C.A.T. came in second overall. Below are the images from the event.
Proud coach moment! The team has been working very hard on training themselves to use our team’s 3-D printer they received through a grant. Today they finally had a successful print! In true teenage fashion, they printed an earbud holder, but the important thing is that it is functional. Cannot wait to see what they create next!
Our Christmas visit was such a big hit with their residence that they invited us back to show off "Steve" our robot! The kids did an amazing job at explaining how he works and what it is like being on the robotics team and in the FIRST FTC League.
Before our students went on their holiday break, we were offered a wonderful and fulfilling opportunity. Our team split between two adult foster care homes, Tidd's Adult Foster Care. Our students decorated cookies, served them dinner, sang chorales, and spent time with the residence. It was an experience I don't think either party will forget!
Team C.A.T. had their best showing in team history to date at the Oxford FTC Qualifier on December 8, 2018. Our team even held first place for two rounds! We ended in 8th place out of 42 teams with only one loss.
This season we kicked off out competitive season in Marshall. I would like to extend my gratitude to those parents that did not hesitate to help out and encourage our students.
The DKMS Robotics team would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Gull Lake Robotics Team and especially Allen and Sheryl. The Gull Lake crew helped team C.A.T. with their programming and building at their own makers space. Their generosity knew no limits with them providing parts for our robot.
